Annual Alzheimer's drive tops $7300 collected in Wolfville
WOLFVILLE, NS - For the sixteenth year in a row, the Axemen football team gathered at their office at the Acadia Arena Complex to set out to canvass the greater area of Wolfville. Most years, the team has endured subzero temperatures and snow but this time the Axemen football team found refuge in a 6 degree winter oasis.
With the weather accommodating, the Axemen football team surpassed their record collection set last season of over $5000 with a collection of $7400. The football team has collected well over $80,000 over the last 16 years and will continued to do so for the Alzheimer's Society of Nova Scotia.
Head Coach Jeff Cummins points out the importance of the effort put forward by the team each year. “We are very pleased to be able to contribute to the ALzheimer’s drive. It is something we believe in and this disease is something our society can do without. I hope that next year we will be able to do more, but to date this is the best Acadia Football has ever done, so for that I am really proud of this team and want to thank all of those who contributed! Winning isn’t something done once in awhile, it’s got to be everyday in everything we do. We won tonight!”
The team has not missed a year since the Drive began as an AUS Football initiative in 1997.
