Head Coach & Offensive Line - Jeff Cummins

tl_files/sites/football/images/jeff_cummins.jpgJeff Cummins - Heading into the 2011 season, Coach Jeff Cummins will be switching back over to the offensive side of the ball and coach the Offensive Line.

Cummins captured his second AUS Football Championship in a row in 2006 with a win over the Saint Mary's Huskies.  In 2005, the Axemen were crowned AUS Champions with a 69-6 win over St. F.X..

Jeff was named the 2005 Atlantic University Sport Coach of the Year for the second year in a row. The Award, voted on by his peers, honours the AUS Football Coach who’s efforts had an impact on his team and the AUS Football Conference.

As head coach of the Axemen for the last seven seasons, Jeff has accumulated 29 wins and 35 losses including the post season.

As a defensive end and tackle, Cummins played in the Canadian Football League on various teams including: Las Vegas, Ottawa, Toronto and finishing on the 1999 Grey Cup Champions Hamilton Tiger Cats, following his graduation from the University of Oregon in 1992.

A native of Torrance, California, Jeff has made Wolfville home with his wife Karen, son Joshua and daughter Sydney.

Assistant Coach - Offensive Line & Special Teams - Peter Fraser

tl_files/sites/football/images/peter_fraser.jpgPeter Fraser enters his third year of coaching with the Axemen and will be coaching the d-line and be the Special Teams Coordinator. A native of Oromocto, NB he played Defensive Line at John Abbott College, and University of Ottawa.  In previous years Peter was the Special Teams Coordinator at McGill University, Defensive Coordinator of the Ottawa JR Riders, and Head Coach the East Ottawa Generals minor football club.


Assistant Coach - Offensive Co-Coordinator & Runningbacks - Tom Flaxman

tl_files/sites/football/images/tom_flaxman.jpgTom Flaxman enters his fourth season as the Axemen Running Back Coach and will also be co coordinating the offense in 2011 along with Chris Judd.

Tom’s previous coaching experience was with the Mississauga Warriors of the OVFL from 2004 – 2009 where he won three championships in 6 years.  Tom took a year off before returning this past summer to be the Offensive Coordinator for the Warriors at the varsity level.  While coaching in Mississauga his duties varied from position to position and he gained valuable experience all the while winning!!!

Coach Flaxman was a Running Back with the Acadia Axemen from 2005-2007 winning AUS Championships in 2005 and 2006. Tom is just putting the finishing touches on his degree from Acadia in Recreation Management.

Assistant Coach - Defensive Coordinator & Linebackers - Shad McLachlan

tl_files/sites/football/images/shad_mclaughlin.jpgShad McLachlan enters his fifth season as the Axemen's linebacker coach and will also act as Defensive Coordinator for the 2011 campaign.

 A native of Torrance California, Shad spent three seasons playing LB for the Axemen.  He was voted a first team All Canadian and the AUS Defensive player of the year in 03'.  Following his time with the Axemen Shad spent three seasons playing professionally in Europe.

As a player and defensive coordinator he lead the Bern Grizzlies to a Swiss championship in 2007, and was voted the SAFV Defensive MVP.  This past summer Shad was the Defensive Coordinator for the Danube Dragons of the European Football League.  Prior to coaching at Acadia Shad spent one season as the LB coach and Asst. Defensive coordinator at Torrance High School in Torrance California. Shad graduated from Acadia in 05’ BA History and just recently completed his B Ed in August 2010.

Assistant Coach - Offensive Co-Coordinator & Quarterbacks - Chris Judd

tl_files/sites/football/images/chris_judd.jpgChris Judd returns for his fifth season as the QB coach with the Acadia Axemen after playing QB for the Axemen from 2004-2006 and will also act as Co-Offensive Coordinator on 2011.

He was named All-Conference QB in 2006 after helping lead to the Acadia Axemen to their second straight conference title and second straight berth into the National Semi-Finals.

Prior to playing and coaching at Acadia, the California native played QB for Los Angeles Harbor College Seahawks and Torrance High School Tartars.  Chris graduated from Acadia University in 2008 with a degree in Kinesiology.

Assistant Coach - Offensive Line - Larry Stewart

tl_files/sites/football/images/larry_stewart.jpgLarry Stewart enters his third year as a member of the Axemen coaching staff as an assistant offensive line coach. This past season, Larry was named the AUS Volunteer Coach of the Year for his work at Acadia this past season.

A native of Smiths Falls, Ontario, Larry is a graduate of Saint Mary’s University where he played for the Huskies from 1978-82. Coach Stewart was an assistant offensive line coach for the St. F. X. X-Men in 1987, and a training camp guest coach in 1997.

He returned to his Alma Mater, the Huskies, to assist the offensive line coach from 1998-2004.

Larry resides in Wolfville with his wife Suzanne, an Acadia graduate who works at Acadia University; his daughter Emily Anne who recently graduated from Acadia, and his Siberian Husky, Anna.

Assistant Coach - Defensive Secondary - Sean Hall

tl_files/sites/football/images/sean_hall.jpgSean Hall joins the Axemen coaching staff after spending 11 years with the uOttawa Gee-Gees where he served as the team’s defensive coordinator, linebacker and defensive backs coach. The Ottawa native, who was born in Halifax, has been involved in coaching since 1997. Apart from the Gee-Gees, Hall has been a member of the U17 Team Eastern Ontario and the CIS East-West Bowl staff, as well as being a guest coach with the CFL’s Hamilton Tiger-Cats the past two seasons during their training camp. During his coaching career, Hall has coached current CFLer’s: Delory Clarke, Steve Holness, Mike Cornell, and Chayce Elliott and now retired Scott Gordon who won a Grey Cup with the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Prior to joining the coaching ranks, Sean played 5 years with the Gee-Gees as a Free Safety earning back to back Dunsmore Cups (1995 & 1996) in addition to two Gee-Gees Outstanding Defensive Player Awards and an 1st Team OQIFC All-Star selection. Before his career with uOttawa, Hall earned a 1992 National Championship with the Ottawa Sooners and was a two-time junior All-Canadian defensive back.

Assistant Coach - Receivers - AJ Tufford

tl_files/sites/football/images/aj_tufford.jpgAJ Tufford enters his first season as the receivers coach for the Acadia Axemen.  Tufford played 5 years in the AUS conference as a receiver with the St. Mary's Huskies, while with SMU he helped the team capture 4 conference titles, and 1 Uteck bowl as well as appear 3 other national semi final games and in 1 Vanier cup.

 Since his time at SMU, AJ has both played and coached on Nova Scotia provincial teams, most recently winning gold as a player in the 2010 men's national flag championships. Following nationals, he was a member of team Canada that placed 4th at the 2010 flag football world championships. He has been an assistant coach at multiple high schools in the Halifax area including former QEH, Citadel High, Halifax West and Sir John A. He is also the offensive coordinator and asst. head coach for the Halifax Shockers of the Maritime football league.

AJ currently works with his father in the indoor football league and is running the Canadian division of their business. Tufford is heavily involved in volunteer work and charity work, and has worked with groups such as the Alzheimer's foundation, Canadian Liver foundation and the Tourette's foundation of Canada. While as a student at SMU, AJ also gave talks to young people in elementary schools which took aim against bullying.
